Dorothy Maxine Brackett

Dorothy Maxine Brackett, 75, of 1155 Maryland Avenue, Spartanburg, SC., passed away Saturday, March 21, 2020, in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

The wife of Douglas C. Brackett, she was born in Union County and was a daughter of the late Willie Mac Duncan and Mildred Norman.

She was employed as a former Educator and Draftman Engineer for BellSouth. She was a member of Island Creek Baptist Church, where she was a Deaconess, member of the Senior, Gospel and Victory Choirs, Sunday School, Bible Study, Adviser to the Voices of Praise Choir, Culinary Ministry and Decorating Ministry Team. She was associated with the Spartanburg Chapter of the Links Inc., Iris Inc., United Negro College Association, and Director of the Spartanburg Urban League.

She leaves to cherish loving memories: two sons, Edgar B. Woody (Mae) of Lyman, SC. and Douglas “Tony” Brackett of N. Hollywood, Ca.; a daughter, Paula Ratliff (Cleo) of Houston, Tx.; a brother Willie Mack Duncan Jr. (Jackie) of Greenville, SC.; two sisters, Mary D. Foster of Spartanburg, SC. and Gail Suber ( Rev. Michael) of Columbia, SC.; three grandchildren, Derrick Justin Walden of Raleigh, NC, Deniqua Wallace of Greenville, SC, and Jordan E. Woody of Lyman, SC.; a great grandchild, Camryn K. Walden of Raleigh, NC.; two brothers-in-law, Dr. A. L. Brackett of Spartanburg, SC., and Winfort Brackett (Vera) of Woodbridge, Va., two sisters-in-law, Ruby Mae Brackett of Cowpens, SC., and Sarah Brackett of Columbia, SC.; an aunt, Rosa Mae Jeter of Somerset, NJ.; and a host of other relatives.

Funeral Service will be Thursday, March 26, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. in Island Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Timothy L. Hunter officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

 

Annie Ruth Keenan

Annie Ruth Keenan, 85, of 510 Thompson St., passed away Thursday, March 5th, 2020 in Brookview Healthcare. She was a widow of the late Curley Keenan. She was born in Cherokee County by the late Toy Haywood and Annie Bell Dewberry.

She was a former member of Shady Grove and later joined Holy Temple Baptist Church. She was a member of the Gospel Choir and an Eastern Star.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by four sons, Jerry Fernandez, Charles Keenan, David Lee, and Kenny Keenan; a brother, Noah Haywood.

She leaves to cherish loving memories: five sons, Jimmy Keenan (Shana) of Cowpens, SC, Curley Odell of Columbia, SC, Johnny Keenan (Joyce Bell) of Cowpens, SC, Willie Keenan of Gaffney, Vance Keenan of Spartanburg, SC; a daughter, Anita Littlejohn (Bobby) of Spartanburg SC; a sister, Betty Adedoyin (Tony) of Thomasville, NC; eighteen grandchildren; twenty-one great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral Service will be Monday 9th, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. in The Gilmore Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Curtis Mings officiating. Interment will follow in Gaffney Memorial Park.

The family is at the home of her daughter Anita Littlejohn, 1307 Montview St., Spartanburg SC.

James Lee Wood

James Lee Wood, 75, of 4201 W. Hill crest Ave. Dayton Oh., formerly of Gaffney, passed away Friday, February 28th, 2020, in Grandview Hospital in Dayton Ohio. He was a son of the late Deacon Herman Wood and Vianna Savage Wood.

Funeral Service will be Thursday, March 5, 2020 at 11:00 a.m., in Valley Peace Baptist Church, Dayton Ohio with the Rev. Jackie Robinson officiating. Interment will follow in the VA cemetery in Dayton, Ohio. 

Thomas Funeral Home of Trotwood, OH is in charge of arrangements. The family is receiving friends and any condolences at his residences..
