Earnest Daniel Bonner, Sr.

Earnest Daniel Bonner, Sr., 76, of 1038 Benton St., Columbia, SC, passed away Thursday, March 1, 2018, in Palmetto Baptist Hospital, Columbia.

Widower of Mary Jefferies Bonner, he was born in Gaffney and was a son of the late Weldon and Ara Scott Bonner.

He was a former employee of Broad River Brick Company.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two children, Earnest, Jr. and Rosalind Bonner; and siblings, James H. Bonner, Fulton Bonner, Samuel Bonner, Mary E. Powell, and Louise Bonner.

Surviving are: a son, Timothy Bonner of Gaffney; three daughters, Karen Bonner of Columbia, Bridget Dawkins and Dietra Makupson (Brian), of Gaffney; sisters, Juanita Bonner of Bronx, NY and Gwendolyn Lipscomb of Lynn, MA.; 15 grandchildren and 9 greatgrandchildren.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, 2 p.m., in Philadelphia Baptist Church with Rev. Danny Burnside officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. He may be viewed in the mortuary Tuesday and in the church Wednesday from 1 to 2 p.m.

The family is at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Dietra and Brian Makupson, 300 Frye Road in Gaffney.

Christine Ross Atkinson-Johnson

Mrs. Christine Ross Atkinson-Johnson, 80, entered eternal rest on Saturday, February 17 2018, in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

She was born in Blacksburg and was a daughter of the late Coot and Evvie Hardin Ross.

Christine was a member of St. Peter Missionary Baptist Church in Grover, NC. She was a graduate of Granard High School, Gaffney and York College, Queens, NY. She was a Licensed C.N.A., and a retired Postal Police Officer with the U.S. Postal Service.

She was first married to Preston S. Atkinson who passed away in 1981. She later married Jones O. Johnson who died in 2005. Christine was also preceded in death by two children, Larry Ross and Elizabeth Atkinson; and three siblings, John W., Albert C., and Emmanuel Ross.

She leaves to cherish loving memories: a son, Jerry Atkinson (Valerie) of Hutto, TX; two daughters, Lynette Sims (Vester), and Vanessa Atkinson-Barnes (Lester), all of Charlotte, NC; brothers, Melvin Ross of Brooklyn, NY, James Howard Ross, and King Willie Ross (Evetta) of Columbia, SC; three sisters, Catherine Jones of Blacksburg, Amelia McLellan (Lee) of Forestville, MD, and Pauline Pitt of Largo, MD; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be Thursday, 11 a.m. to 12 noon in St. Peter Missionary Baptist Church. Funeral Services will follow with Rev. William Thompson officiating. Interment will be in Clingman Memorial Gardens in Blacksburg.

The family is at 304 Whisonant Street, Blacksburg.

Rev. Michael Andrew Boozer

The Reverend Michael Andrew Boozer, 61, of 930 Hetty Hill Street, passed away Friday afternoon in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Husband of Minister Mary Jefferies Boozer, he was born in Spartanburg County and was a son of the late Albert and Thelma Wellman Boozer.

Rev. Boozer was a member and Associate Minister of Indian Hill Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the United States Marines, an employee of UPS, and a member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by: a son, Jermar Rookard of Mauldin; three daughters, Jonica Jefferies of Columbus, Indiana, Belande Jefferies Pettigrew of Grand Ledge, MI, and Michelle Jefferies of Gaffney; five sisters, Nancy Young (James), Mildred Boozer, Martha Hull, Ollie Boozer, and Patricia Norris, all of Spartanburg; 10 grandchildren; and mother-in-law, Rev. Mary Jefferies of Gaffney.

Funeral Services will be Thursday, February 8, at 1 p.m. in Indian Hill Baptist Church.

The family is at the home of Rev. Mary Jefferies, 205 Serene Drive.
