Catherine Hemphill Roberts, 85, of 542 Boiling Springs Hwy, Gaffney, passed away Tuesday, February 27, 2024, in The Peachtree Centre, Gaffney.

She was born in Gaffney and was a daughter of the late Dock Hemphill, Sr., and the late Bertha Glover Hemphill. She was the widow of Bobby Roberts.

Catherine, affectionately known as “Red” by her family and friends, attended the public schools of Cherokee County. She was a member of Concord Baptist Church and a retiree of Stouffers.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by nine siblings, Janie Mae Littlejohn Reid, Annie Griffin, Lucille Mickles, Helen Jefferies, Viola Cox, Effie Moody, Dock Hemphill, Jr., Willie James Hemphill, and Charlie Thompson.

She leaves to cherish loving memories: two sons, Vernon Huskey (Pam), of Atlanta, GA and Kelly Lacey Roberts, of the home; four sisters, Thelma Horton, of Philadelphia, PA, Betty Harris, Addie Fay Dawkins, and Mary Ann Jolly, all of Gaffney; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; god-daughter, Linda Belk; a host of nieces and nephews, including her niece and caregiver, Alice Smith; other relatives and many friends.

A Funeral Service will be held Saturday, 1:00 p.m., in Concord Baptist Church with The Reverend Dr. Michael A. Bridges officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family is at the home of Mary Jolly, 559 Estelle Road, Gaffney.

Ja’Maurion Rayshawn (JR) Rodgers, age 17, of 142 Buckson Street, Gaffney, passed away Thursday, February 15, 2024, in his home.

He was a son of Georgia Smith and the late John Maurice Rodgers.

A Public Viewing will be held Sunday, February 18th, from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the Gilmore Mortuary Chapel.

The family is receiving friends at the home.

Alexander “Deuce” Bridges, beloved son of Alexis Joe (Tierra) Bridges Sr. and Cherrie Carter, was born on December 2, 2002, in Baltimore, Maryland. He spent his formative years in Gaffney, South Carolina, and Hagerstown, Maryland.

Alexander was baptized and found solace and faith at the Holy Trinity New Beginning Church, where his grandmother, Pastor Lizzie Bridges, provided him with spiritual guidance and love.

Alexander’s infectious laughter and love for his family endeared him to all who knew him. He was known for his strength and unwavering love for his family. Despite facing numerous challenges, he always showed remarkable resilience and a deep devotion to those he held dear. He had a passion for football and was an avid fan of the Washington Commanders.

He passed away at Accent Care Hospice in Baltimore, Maryland, surrounded by his loving family on February 13, 2024.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Alex Bridges Jr.; great-aunt, Ruby B. Shook; and great-uncles, Allie Bridges Sr. and Monroe Bridges.

He is survived by: his stepmother, Joan Moser (Janessa Chapman); 3 brothers, Alexis Joe Bridges Jr., Alex Bridges III, and Eric Thompson; 4 sisters, Charlexis B. (Larry) Camp, Charnica Bridges, Alexis Bridges, and Judith Thompson; step-brothers and sisters, Auryanah Johnson (Dre Littlejohn), Amyia Hayes, Sharleen Hayes, and Sherman Hayes Jr. He is also survived by: grandmothers, Pastor Lizzie Bridges and Debra Saunders; a great-grandmother, Evangelist Mondean Covington; 2 uncles, James (Jacquelyn) Bridges and Jackie Bridges; 4 aunts: Zina Bridges, Lina (Clay) Champion, Yvette B. (Hazel) Ross, and Regina Ellis Marks; and a host of great aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at the home of his grandmother on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at 261 Speedway Road, Gaffney, SC. A balloon release will follow the service.

Alexander will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his love, laughter, cherished memories, and his enduring love and strength that inspired all who knew him.
