Minnie Carol Gibbs

Ms. Minnie Carol Gibbs passed away Thursday, March 22, 2018, in Tucker Health Care Home, Columbia, SC.

She was born in Gaffney, SC on December 3, 1938, to Rev. Jesse Gibbs, Sr., and Mrs. Minnie Hemphill Gibbs.

Minnie joined Limestone Baptist Church at an early age and later in life, she became a member of Mitchell Chapel Holiness Church. She was a member of Granard High School Class of 1956, and later received her High School Diploma from the Gaffney High School Adult Education Program. She received an Associate Degree from Spartanburg Technical College. She was a member of the Marionettes Gospel Singing Group, regular performers on the Foster Funeral Home Sunday Morning Radio Program.

Minnie was a vivacious and loving person; never meeting anyone as a stranger. For many years, she was employed as Household Technician for the family of the late Dr. John H. Cathcart, Jr.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Kenneth Renard Gibbs, and a brother, Robert Edward Gibbs.

Surviving are; five sons, Ricky Gibbs, Daryl Gibbs, John Michael Gibbs, Tony Darnell Gibbs, and Keith Bernard Gibbs, all of Gaffney; three sisters, Mrs. Mary Ann Wilkins and Ms. Belinda Sheryl Gibbs, both of Gaffney, Ms. Elayne Gibbs McKenzie of Forestville, MD; three brothers, Jesse Gibbs, Jr. Herbert Gibbs, and Thomas Gibbs, all of Gaffney; aunts, Mrs. Lillie Ellen Thornton of Flint, MI, and Mrs. Gwendolyn Hemphill of Gaffney; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-eight great-grandchidren; nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral Services will be Tuesday, 3:00 p.m., in the Gilmore Mortuary Chapel with Rev. James W. Sanders, Jr. officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Linzsay Lee Smith

Linzsay Lee Smith, 74, of 511 Littlejohn St., passed away Saturday, March 10, in Mary Black Hospital, Gaffney.

Widower of Daisy H. Smith, he was born in Cherokee County and was a son of the late Nobi and Rosa Wood Smith.

He was a member of Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church and a retired employee of Pine Hall Brick Company, Kings Mountain, NC.

Surviving are: 2 children, Norman Crosby and Marvette Vandora Ellis, both of Gaffney; a brother, Freddie Smith of Spartanburg; two sisters, Ruthie Rodgers (Billy) and Nancy Knuckles (Mack) of Gaffney; grandchildren, Donnie Watkins, Lucretia Garcia, William Ellis, Danielle Ellis, Missy Morris, and Anthony Manning; aunts, Lillian Manning, Yvonne Jefferies, Lucile Wood, Nancy Adams, and Minnie Hush, all of Gaffney, Florine Hopper and Janie Famble, both of Lawndale, NC; uncle, Cal Jefferies of Gaffney.

Funeral Services will be Friday, 2:00 p.m., in Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. C.A. Wallace officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

John Maurice Evans

John Maurice Evans, 52, of 112 Martin Lane, passed away Tuesday, March 6, 2018, in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

He was born in Gaffney and was a son of Linnie Poole Evans and the late John Lyman Evans.

John was a 1983 graduate of Gaffney High School and received a B.S. Degree from Limestone College in 2015. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a former employee of The Timken Company.

John was a member of Concord Baptist Church where he served with the Audio Ministry and as an usher.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by a daughter, Nikiria Jeter of the home; a brother, Travis Smith of Baltimore, MD; four sisters, Karen Ferguson (Donald) of Spartanburg, Donna Ross (Johnny) Teresa Evans Hogue, and Rev. Deborah Livsey (Kelsey, Sr.) all of Gaffney.

Funeral Services will be Tuesday, March 13, at 11 a.m., in Concord Baptist Church with Dr. Michael A. Bridges officiating. Interment, with Military Honors, will follow in the church cemetery.
