Eddie Dean Houey

Husband of Alberta Proctor Houey, he was born in Gaffney and was a son of Mae Hester McGill Houey and the late James Howard Houey.

Eddie was a member of Concord Baptist Church where he served as a member of the All Male Chorus, Audio Ministry, and van driver. He was a retired employee of Nestle Company.

In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by a son, Eddie Monta Houey (Thomasina) of Gaffney; Latrice Dawkins (Courtenay) of Gaffney, reared in the home; three grandchildren, Devonte Houey, and Ahmon Houey of Gaffney, Teric Houey of Spartanburg; two sisters, Mary Houey, Amanda Guerrero (Pablo) of Gaffney; four brothers, Spencer Leach (Andrea), Howard Houey (Debra), Thomas Houey (Denise), and Douglas Houey, all of Gaffney; sisters-in-law, Mary Hopper of St. Paul, Minn., Audrey Watkins of Gaffney; brother-in-law, Joe Proctor (Angela) of Columbus, Ga.; a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be Thursday, 2 p.m., in Concord Baptist Church with Dr. Michael A. Bridges officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. He will be in state in the church Thursday at 1 p.m.

Shawn Emory Smith

He was born in New York City and was a son of Cleveland Smith of Gaffney and the late Darlene Littlejohn Smith. He was reared in the home of his great-aunt, Juanita Allen.

Surviving are: six children, Shawmund Wray, Akeem Wray, Jasmyne Smith, Bryson Palmer, and Fantasia Smith, all of Gaffney, Jacquez Page of Detroit, MI; four brothers, Cleo Smith of Laurens, SC, Andre Scott of Gaffney, Johnathan and Chauncey Mitchem, both of New York; four sisters, Elder Juanita Dewberry (Chris) and Rose Marie Smith of Gaffney, Carmen Mitchem and Joyce Mitchem of New York; aunts, Sugarmine Sarratt and Janie Littlejohn, of Gaffney; uncles, Dean Smith and Leroy Smith, Sr. of Gaffney.

Funeral Services will be Monday, August 29, 2016 at 3 p.m., in The Gilmore Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Terry Kilgore officiating. Interment will be in Gaffney Memorial Park.

The family is at the home of Minister Juanita and Chris Dewberry, 112 Illinois Circle, Gaffney.

Eugenia D. Hogue

20160720_181043On Tuesday, July 19, 2016, Eugenia D. Hogue went home to be with her Lord and Savior. Born in Gaffney, S.C., Eugenia was the daughter to the late Randolph Lowery and Ora Dawkins.

Eugenia was a devoted member of Island Creek Baptist Church in Cowpen, South Carolina.

Eugenia was preceded in death by her husband John Roland Hogue, two siblings, Creola Phillips and John Dawkins; seven children, James Earl Hogue, Willie G. Hogue, Thomas A. Hogue, Jimmy Dean Hogue, James (Buck) Hogue, Shirley Brower and Odell C. Hogue.

Eugenia is survived by four children: John L. Hogue (Ollie) of Moore, S.C., Hoyle Hogue of Pasa Robles, C.A., Amozene Hogue of District Heights, M.D. and Mary Jordan of District Heights, M.D.; three sisters, Azlee Lowery and Florine Lindsay of Thomasville, N.C. and Ernestine Woodruff Harris of Mt. Union, P.A.; one brother, Thomas Lowery of Thomasville, N.C.; 17 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and 9 great great grandchildren, 3 special (former) daughter-in-laws, Vernelle Hogue, Connice Hogue and Wasanthie Pathagama, special friend, Shirley Lambert and a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 30th at 2pm at the Island Creek Baptist Church of Cowpens, SC. Visitation will be at 1pm.
Interment will be in the church cemetery.
