Robert Thompson

Robert Lee Thompson, 68, of 172 Cantrell Drive, Chesnee, passed away on Wednesday, January 4, 2017, in his home.

He was born in Spartanburg County, South Carolina on July 30, 1948, and was a son of the late Otha Crawford and the late Rosa Lee Thompson White.

Robert was a 1966 graduate of Foster Grove High School. He furthered his education at Rutledge College, Clemson University, University of South Carolina, and Converse College. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, retired materials manager of Arrow Automotive, former High School Basketball Coach, baseball and basketball player, and co-owner of Carolina Crank and Core.

He was a member of Brooklyn C.M.E. Church where he served in many capacities, including: Steward Board, Life Center Committee, Sunday School Teacher, The All Male Choir, and The Young Adult Choir. Robert was also a member of The Sunlight Gospel Singers and former member of The Golden Trumpets.

He was dedicated to his family, church, and community. His concern for Senior Citizens was evident when he planned excursions for them and delivered dinner to them on Thanksgiving Day.

Robert was also preceded in death by a sister, Janice Foster Casey. He leaves to cherish loving memories: two sons, Bruce Lowrance (Sandra) of Forest City, NC and Dwayne Lowrance of Spartanburg; aunt, Patsy E. “Tootsie” Thompson of Chesnee; uncle, Thomas R. Thompson (Shirley) of Spartanburg; niece, (Shonia Gordon (Edward) of Spartanburg; brother-in-law, Marvin Casey; three Grandchildren, Leslie Littlejohn (Wendell), B.J. Edgerton, and MaKenly Lowrance; his life-long friend, Julius Cates (Elruby) of Spartanburg; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral Services will be Wednesday, January 11th at 1pm in Brooklyn C.M.E. Church of Chesnee, SC. Rev. Timothy L. Hunter will be the eulogist. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Phyllis Theresa Thompson

Phyllis Theresa Thompson, 50, of A-29 Fairfield Apartments, transitioned to eternity on Tuesday, December 27, 2016, in Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home.

She was born in Cherokee County and was a daughter of Alice Petty of the home and the late Herman Bonner.

Phyllis was a member of Suck Creek Baptist Church, a graduate of Crest High School in Shelby, N.C., and a former employee of Cone Mills.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, R.J. Thompson and Herman Bonner, Jr., sisters, Sarah Bonner, Annie Goudelock, Creola Bonner, and Claudette Bonner. In addition to her mother, she is survived by a son, Tyrece Hardy of Gastonia, N.C.; companion, Michael Hardy of Gaffney; two sisters, Minnie Bonner and Angel Norris (Daryl) of Gaffney; four brothers, Bernard Thompson (Dorothy) of Mooresboro, N.C., Horace Thompson (Annie) of Kingstown, N.C.; M. C. Bonner (Alice) and Nero Bonner, all of Gaffney; sister in-law, Ella Bonner of Gaffney; four aunts, Minnie Smith (Rev. Arthur J.) of Mooresboro, NC, Nellie Hollis (Victor), and Gracie Smith of Gaffney, and Lula Lee (Ernest) of Shelby; uncle, Archie Lee Petty of Shelby; great-aunt, Billie Sue McFadden of Gaffney.

Funeral Services will be Saturday, Dec 31st at 2:30 p.m., in The Gilmore Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Arthur J. Smith, Min. Stephanie Tate, and Rev. Timothy L. Hunter. Interment will be in Gaffney Memorial Park.

Mrs. Ruby C. Gibbs

Mrs. Ruby C. Gibbs, 82, widow of Walter Gibbs, Sr., transitioned to eternity in Washington, D.C. on Thursday, December 22, 2016, in Washington. Funeral Services will be Friday, December 30 at 2pm, in New Hope A.M.E. Zion Church, Union, S.C., with Rev. Ronnie McCrorey officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
