Al Franklin Wilkins

alwilkins3Al Franklin Wilkins, 67, of 1016 E. O’Neal St., died Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013, in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Husband of Josie Tate Wilkins, he was born in Cherokee County and was a son of the late Edgar and Gussie Foster Wilkins. Al was a graduate of Granard High School and a retired employee of Overnite Transportation and Miles Rubber Company. He was a former member of Mitchell Chapel F.B.H. Church, where he served as an usher. He later joined Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church and served in the Video Ministry and Sunday School.

Al was preceded in death by two sisters, Luvenia Foster and Annie Pearl Forest.

Surviving are his wife, Josie Wilkins; a daughter, Shayla Wilkins of Columbia; two sons, Vincent Wilkins of Central and Johnny Wilkins of Gaffney; a foster son, Floyd Sullivan (Rachel) of Georgia; a brother, Wash Gene Wilkins of Columbia; sisters-in-law, Brenda Tate, Dorothy Tate, Donna Tate, Louena Tate, Annette Tate and Sybil Wilkins; and brothers in-law, Howard Tate and Wallace Tate.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Oct. 21, at 2 p.m. at Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. C.A. Wallace officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. He will lie in state from 1-2 p.m.

Serphe Webb Livsey

Serphe LivseySerphe Webb Livsey, 83, of Gaffney, entered eternal rest on Friday, October 11, 2013, in Valley Falls Terrace Nursing Home, Spartanburg.

Widow of Elix Livsey Sr., she was born in Cherokee County and was the daughter of the late George and Jessie Crawford Webb. Mrs. Livsey was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Elix Livsey Jr., and siblings, Jerlean Wood, Olestrous Mayberry, Emma Littlejohn, Annie Hendrix, Maggie Sarratt, Minnie Smith, George Lee Webb and Savannah Webb.

Surviving are her children, Lillian L. Camp (Tracy), Wyvonnie L. Curry, Teresa L. Morrow (Charles) and Alvin Livsey, all of Gaffney; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Lillie Jones of Gaffney; and a brotherin law, Tommie Smith of Cleveland, Ohio.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Oct. 18, at 12 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church with Dr. James W. Sanders Jr. officiating. Interment will be in First Baptist Church Cemetery, Earl, N.C. Mrs. Livsey will lie instate in the church Friday from 11 a.m. until the service hour.

The family is at the home of Lillian and Tracy, 519 McCluney Drive.

John Valentine

John Henry Valentine, 90, of 222 Hilltop Drive, entered eternal rest on Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2013, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Born in Union County, he was the son of the late John and Mandy Belle “Kate” McCluney Valentine. He was the widower of Bertha Dillard Valentine and Mattie Gardner Valentine. Mr. Valentine was a member of Suck Creek Baptist Church, a former employee of Duke Power and a retired carpenter .

Surviving are a daughter, Evelyn Huskey of Gaffney; two brothers, J.C. Valentine (Sarah) of Chicago, Ill., and Homer Lee Valentine of New Haven, Conn.; a sister, Cordelia Hogue (Johnny) of Grover, N.C.; four grandsons, Eddie Dean Huskey (Christine) of Columbia, Henry Huskey (Gloria) of Gaffney, Hoyal Wallace Huskey (Glenda) of Blacksburg and A.D. Huskey (Janice) of Cowpens; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, Sept. 29, at 3 p.m. in Gilmore Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. C.A. Wallace officiating. Interment will be in Springhill Memorial Gardens, Chesnee.

The family is at the home of his daughter at 1362 Leadmine Road, Gaffney.
